Who we are

Mercurian Equity Pty Ltd (ACN 686 602 022) is a Corporate Authorised Representative (No. 1316987) of Providence Equity Holdings Pty Ltd (ACN 612 005 928, AFSL 487419).

This policy explains how we handle personal information collected through mercurianequity.com.au. It applies to this website. If you become an investor or enter a transaction process with us, further terms will apply and will be provided to you at that time.

We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

What we collect

We collect only what you give us. There are two ways that happens.

If you contact us. The enquiry form asks for your first name, last name and email address. Phone number and company are optional. You choose what to write in the message field.

If you subscribe to our research. We collect your email address. Nothing else.

We do not ask for financial information, identity documents or investor certification through this website. We do not operate member accounts, we do not process payments, and we do not store login credentials, because none of those functions exist on this site.

Automatically collected information. Our website is hosted by Hostinger on servers overseas. Hostinger records standard server logs, which may include your IP address, browser type, the pages you visited and the time of your visit. Static content is served to Australian visitors through a content delivery network node in Sydney.

Cookies and tracking. This website does not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels or third party analytics that identify you. The LinkedIn Insight Tag used on our previous site has been removed. We do not build advertising audiences from your visit, and we do not share visitor data with advertising platforms.

Where we link to our website from LinkedIn posts, we use tracking parameters in the link itself. These tell us that a visit came from a particular post. They do not identify you and they set nothing in your browser.

We do not use website analytics beyond the standard server logs described above.

Why we collect it

Enquiries. To respond to you, and to have the conversation you initiated. If that conversation continues, to maintain the ordinary records of a business relationship.

Research subscriptions. To send you each issue when it publishes.

We do not sell personal information. We do not trade, rent or share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes. We do not build profiles for advertising beyond what is described above.

Direct marketing

If you subscribe, you will receive our research and nothing else. Every email includes a working unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect promptly.

If you contact us with an enquiry, we will reply to your enquiry. We will not add you to the research list unless you ask us to.

We comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).

Who we share it with

We share personal information only where it is necessary to operate the site. We use three service providers and no others.

Hostinger, which hosts the website on servers overseas. Enquiry form submissions pass through this server before reaching us.

Microsoft, whose Outlook and Microsoft 365 services we use for business email. Enquiries sent through the contact form are delivered to, and stored in, our Microsoft mailbox.

Vision6 by Constant Contact, which manages our research subscriber list and sends each issue. Vision6 stores subscriber data onshore in an Australian data centre certified to ISO 27001. Subscriber email addresses do not leave Australia.

We also disclose personal information to professional advisers where we are required to seek legal or accounting advice, and where required by law, including to a regulator, court or law enforcement agency.

We do not share personal information with any other party.

Overseas disclosure

Research subscribers. Your email address is held by Vision6 in an Australian data centre and is not disclosed overseas.

Website visitors and enquiries. Our website is hosted on servers overseas, so server logs and anything you submit through the enquiry form are processed there before reaching us.

Business email. We use Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft 365 for business correspondence, including enquiries received through this website. Our Microsoft 365 tenant stores data in Australia.

Before disclosing personal information to an overseas recipient, we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles it consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles. Overseas recipients may be subject to different laws, and in some circumstances we may not be able to enforce Australian privacy protections against them.

How we protect it

We hold personal information on systems protected by access controls and encryption in transit. The site does not store passwords, payment details or identity documents, because it does not collect them. It sets no tracking cookies and runs no third party advertising code. This materially reduces what could be exposed.

No system is completely secure. If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

How long we keep it

Research subscribers. Until you unsubscribe, after which your address is removed from the list.

Enquiries. Seven years.

Where we no longer need personal information and are not required to retain it, we destroy or de-identify it.

Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable period. In most cases there is no charge. If we refuse access or correction, we will tell you why in writing.

You can unsubscribe from our research at any time using the link in any issue, without contacting us.

Complaints

If you think we have mishandled your personal information, contact us first. We will acknowledge your complaint and respond within a reasonable period.
